"What was that saying again? Work hard, play harder?"
"Yep, I think that's it."

Eight groups of five/six were dressed in different colors: Awesome Aquamarine, Pushy Pink, Oh-some Orange,  Bombastic Blue, Amazing Ash, Powerful Purple, Galactic Green and Resbak Red. Everyone was eager not to lose, for the punishment shall be losing one's dignity in an attempt to shake their booties as an intermission number in the company's Christmas Party. This year, it gets much better. It was agreed upon that not only one, but two numbers shall be prepared. Dun. Dun. DUNNNNNNNN.
You might think that it was alright for me to lose. Well... no.
You see, I didn't want to be the anchor that'll bring my team down.

... and I wasn't (though I got the lowest score of us all ha-ha).

In the end, we weren't the last team in the ranking sheets and none of my team's members were part of the lowest individuals. But if you ask me, even if the conclusion of that night was a different one, I'd still be happy. 'Cause we played hard and came in like a wrecking ball (for the bowling pins is what I mean).

P.S: I know, I'm addicted to Wrecking Ball references nowadays. I'm sorry. This'll pass. Give me time.

He was telling her of her worth, her impact and how much she's done for him.
He was almost in the verge of tears, but once he finished, she laughed that familiar breathy laugh of hers.
"What's so funny?" He wasn't annoyed by the action, he was used to it actually. But he always wondered why she laughed whenever he says something like this.
She looked at him, trying hard to keep her eyes on his.
"You have to understand that this will always feel new to me. It will always feel like it's the first confession I've ever heard. So, I'll always end up speechless. I won't be able to look into your eyes for too long 'cause I'll see how genuine your words are, and I just know it'll take my breath away. In the end, there won't be any other outlet for the happiness that you just made me feel. So.. I laugh."
She smiled shyly at him and took his hand then squeezed it. "I laugh because I'm really happy that I'm with you."
She leaned on his shoulder and for once, he didn't mind being laughed at.

For the past few weeks, I have been constantly trying to be attentive with people's attempt of conversation with me, 'cause truth be told I have only one thing that I cannot stop thinking about, which is Kpop Republic. The said event consists of three Kpop Idol groups (Dal Shabet, EXO-K, SHINee ♥) and a hip hop duo (Crispi Crunch feat. Soomin of April Kiss).

Shall I start the story from the beginning?

September 7, 2013, approximately ten in the morning, I got word from a Kpop friend of mine that SHINee had just arrived from Korea. The initial plan was to not stalk them and stay put until the concert starts. But there was this feeling of hope when I thought about seeing them really up close, besides my sister really wanted to stalk them too. You see, we didn't acquire SVIP tickets, we had Upper Box A tickets, so I understand her sentiments. Hence, the thought of seeing SHINee's gayness up close was something to really ponder about.

After measuring the pros and cons, we've decided to wait for their arrival in Shangrila Hotel in EDSA. Once our feet landed near Shangrila Plaza, I could already feel the presence of all my fellow Kpop fans.
"You see that? They're fangirls! Come on!" I took hold of my sister's hands and I think it's appropriate to say that in that moment we tried our best to run like the wind
We heard girls screaming so we ran to that direction, only to find out that we were too late.
I asked a girl if SHINee had already arrived.
"They arrived minutes ago. I actually saw Taemin and Key."
We weren't ready to give up yet so I asked a friend of mine, who has experience in these kinds of things, where the idols usually loiter around.
We followed her directions only to be blocked by guards everywhere. We tried to look as if we weren't fans, but to no avail.

So in the end, we just sat at a corner in Shangrila Hotel and waited for a miracle to happen.

The look of a defeated fangirl :))

Perhaps this time anyone might think, SHINee might come around and we'll get to see them. But no. Life is not a fairytale, especially the life of a fangirl. So after an hour of waiting, we decided it was time to pack our bags and give up. We went inside Shangrila Plaza and waited for a friend of ours before we came to Araneta.

Waiting for my friend's sister. 'Cause she needed someone to go with her in the concert. By this time, I already felt tired. All the running we did took a toll on me.

We finally got to Farmer's Mall via MRT. And wow, MRT was really packed. Even if it was a Saturday and it wasn't even rush hour. We decided to finally eat, since a hungry stomach can't suffice for an energy packed concert. While eating, we were waiting for Sir Francis' arrival (officemate of mine), who is very kind to lend me his digital camera (I know. We're poor. Hu-hu). When he arrived, that's when I realized that we forgot to bring something very important, our concert tickets. Dun Dun Dunnnnnnn.

Yes. I, the ever organized and always planning Jencel, have forgotten our tickets. I seriously wanted to punch myself that time. I really don't know what was happening, but it felt like evil forces were toying with me that day.

It was raining really hard when we (Sir Francis was kind enough to accompany me) went back to the apartment and look at what happened.

Yes, we had to endure a knee-high deep flood just to get those tickets.

It was really frustrating 'cause I was posing this goth-I-hate-people-look but it got ruined. So in the end I went for the normal shirts and pants getup.

We got back in Araneta at around 5:30 PM and the gates were already opened. We got ushered to the reserved seats and I love how the stadium looked with all my fellow fangirls in their seats.

I cried when I realized how close I was to the stage. Ha-ha.

The fans went wild once the lights went out.

"Good evening Araneta Coliseum. Welcome to Kpop Republic. Here are your hosts for tonight, Christian Bautista and Jinri Park!"

Their appearance was really short. I guess it's because they're trying to squeeze in everything in a 2-hour concert.

The first act was the hip-hop duo Crispi Crunch. Normally, Kpop fans would not even mind anyone that isn't their favorite group. But their songs and the vibe their performance gave just boosted up everyone's excitement. I actually wanted to stand up from my seat and party like I don't care.

Their last song was Gangnam Style and I think they did it 'cause they really wanted everyone to dance along with them.

The second to perform is the female idol group, Dal Shabet. I have known them since I was in college 'cause of Chill (my very handsome bestfriend). He wanted us to dance Supa Dupa Diva in one of our performances. So that's when I discovered them. But I never really got into them like I did with 2ne1, SISTAR, f(x), etc. So my sister did some research on them and we watched their music video of Be Ambitious, and we were really lucky 'cause they actually performed it! I was able to take a video of it (it was too sexy awesome to not be recorded).


Their last song, coincidentally, is Supa Dupa Diva.

The next act, kind of blasted my eardrums to their death, EXO-K. I'm not much of a fan of the group. But their performance and songs (like Growl) were really good. I like how they're really interactive with their fans. They kept saying that Philippines was a beautiful country (according to my hearing), and how the Filipino fans are "go-reu-geous". I have to admit, Chanyeol and D.O really made my eyes stayed glued to them. I was also able to capture their first song, Wolf.

Their last song was Growl, and I, in particular, really enjoyed it 'cause *cough* D.O *cough*.

If I thought my eardrums was blasted when EXO-K performed, my heart, soul, body, and holy mother of glob every part of my being got blown away when a white curtain was put up for the next performers, SHINee. (You have to understand how badly I am controlling the urge to type everything in all caps right now.)

Their first song, Dream Girl (one of the my favorite era might I add), was just wonderful. Though I hated the part when the song already started and the lights were still off. But seeing them there, in that stage, with my own eyes, all the negative I felt that day went away. I suddenly didn't mind that I had to walk through a flood 'cause I forgot our tickets, the never ending stress of budgeting money just to buy those said tickets. All I felt was this bubble of happiness slowly starting to inflate itself in my lungs and the tears building up in my tear ducts.

I have thought of what my reaction would be when I see them. Will I cry? Will I just stand there like an idiot? Will it feel like it's real? All those questions were answered when the spotlights were turned on. Then, there they were, my four shining gay husbands (unfortunately one of them was back in Korea filming a drama) in all their glorious perfection.

After their first performance, they introduced themselves.
"Philippines! Long time no see huh?!"
I love how Key uses his English skills more to communicate with international fans now (they always used to have translators). Basically, he said that they miss Philippines and their sorry that they're only four but they promise to come back as five, and then he said that they love Filipino fans (I know they practically say it to any fan of theirs but to be one to which it's directed to. OH DEAR. Hold me).

Key said their next song was Lucifer, which in all it's glory is what made me discover SHINee and fall in love with them. 'Cause this song... this song have some of the raddest moves I have ever seen in my life (and they're all really sexy in it). 

Then the music started again and they dove right into another song which was Stranger. It surprised us 'cause they don't usually perform it in events like this. But the good thing about a song that isn't always performed is they give their all when they do. It's pretty obvious how they dance more when it's these kinds of songs.

Jonghyun then introduced their next song in korean which Key translated into, "You're so Beautiful". This performance is what made me want those SVIP tickets in the first place. 'Cause midway of the song they started interacting with the fans and giving out these bunny plushies in the crowd. I really wished I had elastic hands to grab one of it.

Then, it was there. The moment we all dreaded the most, their last song, Why So Serious?
I gave myself the liberty of putting down all the things I'm holding and enjoy their last performance. No cameras to check if I was recording them correctly, no interference with the feeling I know will soon be coming. Just me, my eyes, my maniacal screams, and my SHINee World lightstick bouncing to the beat of the song.


A display of fireworks started to go off in the bridge of the song, signalling the near end of the show. When Jonghyun sang the high note "Tonight~", I felt the tears rolling down my cheeks. The mixture of happiness and sadness overwhelmed me.

One last chorus, SHINee's final bow and the lights turned off.

That was it. The dream was over. But the memory of it, will always.. always, stay with me.

“I promise not to laugh.” She said with a straight face.
“Promises.” He sighed.
“What about it?” She looked at him in confusion.
He shrugged and took a deep breath. “I don't believe in 'em.”
Her nose crunched up. “Why not?”
He smile crookedly at her. “Cause promises are meant to be bro--”
“Bullshit.” She smiled innocently at him. And he blinked at her in surprise.
“Promises aren't meant to be broken. People just break them cause society tells them to.”
Now it was his time to be confused. “What do you mean?”
“Promises are meant to be broken.” She took a deep breath and looked up at the sky, thinking carefully of the words she needed to use. “When people break their promises, that's what comes to their mind. Because that's what they believe in. They believe more in that stupid saying than the power of their own will to keep a promise. But if they didn't believe in what most people say about promises, do you think they'll be able to do it? Break their promises?”
She looked at him and smiled . 'Cause he was analyzing what she just said, he was ready to accept yet another life lesson from her, and his beautiful mind that always tries to understand her, makes her fall in love deeper and deeper.
“Don't let society tell you what to be. 'Cause society sucks.” She leaned on his shoulder, closed her eyes, didn't say a word and let him bask in the great feeling of yet another epiphany.

They need not be a lover.
They can take any form they want: a friend, or a family member.

Soulmates can make you feel that heart-warming happiness; the sudden realization of how good life can be.

She giggled 'cause the screams of the crowd was gathering attention. Normally, she'd bow her head and be ashamed, but in this type of occasion, she didn't mind being in a crowd. In fact, the screams was a natural occurrence now. She observed the one with the long hair. He seemed uninterested in every kind of way.
The music started and they started gliding across the floor.
Surprise groped her as the boy started moving. His body was like the brush that with every stroke, made a masterpiece.
The music ended. But she stayed put in her place, her mind replaying every bit of move he made.
When she looked up, he was staring at her directly. She wanted to talk to him, ask him more about who he is. But she can't.
Just because.

Seeing the little dots of transparent substance on the window pane, she smiled to the sensation she feels, the serenity it brings.

"Rain is silence but not empty, just like white noise."

She stirs the hot chocolate, touch lingering on her favorite mug, savoring every moment. 'Cause it's been awhile since she's been like this, at a peace, not complaining about the problems, but just sitting in a room, watching the blue sky turn into a pale, blank scenery.

She brings the cup up to her lips and takes a sip of the beverage in between her hands, the only thing giving her warmth in this weather.
The sweet, smooth, sultry drink runs down her throat and she felt her lips curve into a satisfied smirk.
This is what it feels like to be genuinely happy.

How divine.

Sugar, spice and everything nice, these are the things that make food up. 'Cause food is like the last hope when everything else fails. It's a guilty pleasure for anyone. So when life gives you lemons, eat it, and maybe ask for more food?

I'm having a weird fetish for food photography nowadays.

Twice or thrice a month, awkward potatoes have this spontaneous urges to socialize. So when an awesome film came into picture, free time was found, the awkward potatoes decided to go into that adventure.

Who wouldn't want to go to a university with these guys?

Oh yeah. Have I mentioned I was with Miss Beautiful over here. Hi Macy. You were 20 minutes late. 'Causing me to miss 20 minutes of that awesome movie. Shame on you baby. Shame on you.

We fit in with them. We fit in with them too much.

Oh hi there Iron Man suit. Have you any idea how awesome the movie is about you 'cause of Robert Downey Jr.? No? Well, you are just a suit.

Besides waiting for summer getaways and the usual barkada gimmicks, there are things that I do to depart from the norm. Truth be told, I've gotten by the days and weeks of stress, boredom, and work just because of this day, the JAT (Japan Arena Tour) + Fire Overload Album Launch of my five shining gay husbands, SHINee. I  even bought new clothes for the said event, not just because I was excited for it, but also they said to wear the color of our fandom, Aqua Blue/Pearlescent Sky Blue.

Oh yish. I'm wearing my boots 'cause I felt fashionable and fierce HAHAHAHA eew

Me, my cousin and my sister were all really eager to go as early as possible, knowing that there was a possibility that the stocks of the albums might not be enough. But we were held back by the inevitable occurrence that is chores. So in the end, we got off at 9:30am and the event was gonna start at 10 am. Have I mentioned that we're from Laguna and the event was to be held at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong? Yeah.

You don't even wanna know how much this album is >.<

Being with the two most carnivorous creatures in our family, we decided to eat right after buying the album. Since my sister was always telling me that she hasn't eaten with me in any "conyo" places, I insisted we eat at Subway.

You know that game where they spell the word on your back? Well, I'm not really good with that but knowing I might win some kpop merchandise, I suddenly became competitive LOL

There was a time in our life when we were kept in a cocoon, and inside that shell was where we developed most of our being. I can say that I was inside that cocoon in the period of my high school and college days.

High school was when I built my bravery, and learned the power of my decisions.

And college.. well, that's when I found out most of who I am now.

It's rather refreshing to go back to the times when we were naive and unconscious of the world. When I've always thought I had to bring all my books to school just because.
When I thought I needed good grades no matter what or else.. or else. Well, I never really knew. I just always thought I needed it. I never questioned anything people tell me. And maybe, that was what made the world so wonderful that time. 'Cause you knew little, 'cause there were many things yet to be discovered.

But there was one thing I grew up with.
I like classifying things. And yes, that is including the homo sapiens of this world.
In my elementary days, it was only the "Populars" and "Normal" people. The name pretty much says what it is. If you're curious where I think I belonged in these set of people then I can say I was between them. Of course, my mind got hold of new species to classify once I entered the animalandia of high school. Shall we make a list?

The Incredibles
- These are the people who pretty much has a big resemblance to "The Populars". Everyone in your batch knows who they are and those who don't, knows them by name and face. Would I say they are kind people? Yep. Well, at least the ones I got to know.

The Mean Girls
- Uhhmm.. do I even need to explain this? Okay. Fine. This set of people, be female/male specie, are the ones who always carries a knife around with them. So in any chance they get, they stab you. Pretty hard too.

The Boogey Mans
- These are people who have nothing else to do but suck the happiness from the room and turn it into a riot. They bully people a lot.

The Megaminds
- They are the Einsteins of the society [it's a bit weird for me calling them 'Einsteins' since we actually had a section in fourth year whose named after Einstein]. People always thought they were boring to hang out with. Well, they aren't. They're nice and well.. they're good group leaders. Just don't take advantage of them. 'Cause they bite.

The Sociables
- They might sound like "The Incredibles" but there are some differences. These people are very kind to everyone. And I mean everyone. They know what to say and where to be. They're the officers of clubs, student body government and whatever shannanigans your school wasted their money on.

The Patricks to your Spongebob
- These are the people who caught your eye in the first meeting and you got along with right away. They can be stupid at times, but also full of wisdom when you need them. You pretty much do everything together and you guys are best of friends.

The Wallflowers
- They're always awfully quiet. The ones who just laughs in the background or sometimes disappears and becomes the background. Always an easy target for the boogey mans.

If you're gonna ask where I am in my own list, I would prolly say I'm a pokemon. I never liked being the same with anyone. Ha-ha.

Also, I realized that this list made me a close-minded person. And we wouldn't want that, right? So drop the lists and be anyone you wanna be. Just make sure it's not the wrong 'anyone'.

P.S: This post is like eons late but it still is a memory so...

If you have met me personally or talked to me in the life span of 45 minutes, then I may not or may have said something about me being a fangirl. If that's so, you may or may not know how "fangirling" works. So let me break it down little by little.

• I can feel the joy and heartbreak of love by simply looking at their picture.
• Bias (n.) - favorite member from the group
• I ship a lot. Not the 'ship' as in the ship in Titanic, or 'ship' as in ship things to other places. But ship as in shipping and liking a pair, be it same sex or strange, we ship it. Exhibit A: Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield
• You might find it weird that I keep saying that I hate their existence and want them to go away. But that is my endearment for them.
• I speak to him directly as if we've already met.
• I have this delusional thinking that he is my husband and he is waiting for me to come home to him every night.
• One of my biggest dreams is to come to his country and have babies with him.

It is still unknown to this day, how exactly "fangirling" works. But my studies have resulted to this. These are merely the basic points, but these points are a far cry from the emotional sabotages we fangirls endure. I still do hope it gave you a sense or idea. Lastly, if after this you think differently of me then I would like to point out that "fangirling" is normal. Every person has the right to want and obsess over things that life has to offer. And I am making no snide comments as to what YOU like or what YOU prefer, so kindly do everyone the honor of respecting what they like. But if you find this a health hazard, then feel free to warn me.

"It is tossed by the waves, but does not sink."

Love comes in many forms. To love a place may seem odd, but nevertheless, I am. I've never step foot in this place, and it is uncertain that I ever will. But one thing is for sure, my delight for this city will never fade.

Paris, the capital of France, widely known as the "City of Love". I've had a fascination towards the Eiffel Tower ever since I first laid my eyes on it from a photograph. It was a mystery why. Perhaps it was the thought of love, the feeling of the wind blowing through my hair, seeing the marvel of the city high up and a rush of adrenaline coursing through my body as I hold my breath for what awaits. I really can't recall what came to me when I saw that photograph, I was a little girl when it happened. But I imagine myself grinning and my eyes sparkling, gaping at the marvel and thinking, "One of these days, I would stand right there.", then pointing at the top of the structure. It's a spot where many want to be. A spot where you'll smell fresh baked bread, hear the beeping of cars and motorcycles, and houses that are centuries old, that it's being vintage adds so much beauty to what you see. This is what I imagined Paris to be. And it is what I want to wake up to everyday. Everyday, I want to wake up to the feeling of love and true beauty.

People of different sizes, faces and personalities will come and go. But there are those who stand out and leave a mark, a special place in your heart. These are the people, however far away and distant, still is present and puts a smile in your face even if just mentioned. The ones who will not fret on telling you how stupid you are for making a bad decision but still manage on encouraging you to keep going. And even if you made the same mistake twice, will never truly leave you.

Mom, Dad, Kuya Jeje, Jas, and Kaith. I could never have asked more for a better family. You are the reason I travel everyday from Laguna to Manila and vice versa. Even if I come home exhausted, it is nothing compared to your company and the laughter we share together.

Trust these people to bring out the inner diva in anyone; Chill, Macy, Sheezie, Nicole and Kuya Jec. You remind me to never forget my past but to cherish it, for it is what made me who I am today. I miss you guys so much (\^*^/)


 

The crowd I work with, the most extraordinary ones, Jean bb. I love you. Not in a gay kind of way, but as a friend. You're one of the very few who I picture myself growing old with. You can be the aunt of my future children. Ha-ha ;) Also, Toowin Francis, I've never met someone who embodied the saying "It's better to give than to receive" so much better than you. Keep rocking you guys \m/


The half-recluse, half witch, and full time 1D fanatic friend of mine, Kryzette. Even if we've known each other for only a short period of time, I feel connected to you. Maybe it's because of the books, or the stories you have, or perhaps because we're writers. Whatever reason it is, one things is for sure. You taught me that friendship can be conjured in unusual ways.



You guys truly are peculiar. You stood out and left a mark in me. A mark I will carry around until I am no more.

One cold Sunday night, my brother and I decided to see "Struck by Lightning". My brother kept billowing that it was a really good movie so I decided to watch it. Besides, it's Chris Colfer and I just cannot say no to how adorable he is. And wha'd ya know? The movie was phenomenal. I read reviews of the movie, and sadly, people seem to think otherwise. Some say that the characters were built too hollow and the story line seemed a bit cliche. But what they couldn't see is how realistic the movie was. It showed how life can bring you down so many times, but the only thing you can do is fight, that even if it's hard to get back up, it still is a choice whether to get back up or give up. I think the movie made so much impact on me that's why I loved it so much. The passion and hard work Carson (Chris Colfer) brings to everything he do is simply marvelous. I just thought everything in the movie was genuine. It's a teen movie, and I can't blame movie-watchers to think that it is cliche. But all the things said in this movie was complete reality. Well, except being struck by real lightning though ;)

My favorite lines from the movie:
"Like having a great idea, life comes at you fast. It hits you and tries to escape and be expressed in any way possible. In a way, it's a lot like...lightning."
- I loved this line the moment it escaped from Chris' mouth. I can relate to this in so many levels. You form a great idea and you just want to express it in any way possible, in my case writing.

"...because a life without meaning, without drive or focus, without dreams or goals, isn't a life worth living."
- This struck me really hard. 'Cause I don't know where to go yet, I have no idea what I want yet and that made me kinda worried.

"You've got to show the world who you are before it tells you. Otherwise you become victim to someone you're not."
- When I was still a really little girl, more petite than I am now, I always thought that you have to please everyone, but as movies, TV series, books and my own experiences taught me, you really can't. Just as long as you're pleased with yourself and you love what you're doing, nothing else really matters.

"Sometimes a personal rain cloud can be deadly."
- I've always been a pessimistic person. Hell, my brother even gave me a nickname, "The Nega-Star". Ha-ha. But I've learned that taking pity on yourself doesn't really improve anything. It only makes you feel worse. So after a series of unfortunate events, I realized that rather than going on your own pity parade, it was better to hold your head up and move on. 'Cause life won't stop when you get down, it continues, and so should you.

There have been rare occurrences when I am idle and inspired. And that's saying something since these days, I usually am idle, like now. Teehee :>

When these rare things happen, I tend to write them down on my handy dandy notebook. Now, I want to share some of the things my mind goes pondering with.

You've probably read the description of my blog already. If you haven't it's just up there. See? It's the text after my blog title. Teehee. I feel obliged to explain my blog title and URL. So here goes:

Why is my blog named "you're not so bad yourself"?
- It's usually said after a compliment, right? And well, I thank all the people whoever complimented me, because even if it was just the smallest thing, it made an impact. It can make a change. You turned a frown into a smile. I want to be able to share those kind of experiences with you guys. This time, I want you to be the one who can say "you're not so bad yourself".

Why "aber-rant"?
- Well, according to the World Wide Web (thank Heavens for Google), aberrant means "diverging from the normal type", which is exactly what I've always wanted to do, been doing and will always do. I mean who doesn't like standing-out, right? Anyway, I wanted my URL to be mind-blowing, so I hid other obvious messages in it, i.e Making the word 'rant' pop out. WWW says that as a verb it means "speak or shout at length in a wild, impassioned way". Well, I am not shouting in this blog, but it is rather a metaphor. This blog represents my experiences, emotions and a part of my being, and is free for the whole world to see. If that doesn't sound like shouting to the world who you are, then I don't know what is.

I guess that's all that I have to say in here. The following posts should paint you a picture of me, so feel free to browse. Let a life of adventures begin!
